I don’t think I have ever been so excited for a seasonal transition. Insert all the spring cliches about flowers growing and birds rejoicing in their sing-song ways here…I’m excited about FASHION! Yes, it’s about rebirth and growth yadda yadda yadda…But, being a new mom for the second time, has stylistically left me lame and cornered into a world of yoga pants, sweats, nursing tanks, and my hubby’s t-shirts. Let’s make it clear that there is nothing glamorous about being on mat leave. It’s a grind.
Rant aside, I’m so excited to open my closet door and see all the wonderful trends come to life and actually make their way onto my body. There is a ton trending but take a look at my FAB FIVE spring trends!

Hello Canadian tuxedo! Now let’s be serious, when is denim NOT in style. But the difference here is that its all about mixing and matching your denim. Mix lights with darks or textures with patterns. Now don’t get all Britney and Justin circa 2001, but take a piece of that fashion philosophy and make it better. Fashion always repeats itself. Be less matchy-matchy and more mixy-mixy. Make sense?
There is no denim that is off the table, but because it’s spring I’m drawn to the light denim palette. Stone wash, acid wash, or white-washed, do it all. Dresses, button downs, and jeans {including OVERALLS!} are an easy way to get denim into your daily diet. To get a bit more creative, look for denims in your accessories as well — purses, vests, and dare I say…SHOES!

FLORALS
Ok, I said I was avoiding Spring cliches but I can’t ignore my obsession with florals. Mixing prints is also heavily encouraged this season and florals is a great base to start with. I know, I know, florals as a base?! But yes. Live a little. Try it. Be prepared to see a lot of florals at wedding showers or weddings, so have fun with it, get wild, and don’t think you have to be conservative just because you are pretty in petunias.

PEEK A BOO!
Cutouts and little peek-a-boo pieces are the cutest and classiest way to add some fun, flirty, and sometimes sexy style to any outfit. Literally anyone can pull of this trend. This trend actually reminds me of my grade 8 graduation. I’m not going to date myself here, but like I said fashion tends to circle round. All we can do it learn from it and have fun. So show off those silky shoulders or that magnificent midriff this spring! One of my favourite hockey wives, Erica Ott, is always a fashion muse for me. Last year she predicted some of the cutest and current trends. I love her style and she makes fashion look easy! This mama has it going on! She needs to have her own fashion BLOG!

SELL YOURSELF SHORT…{only this one time}
The only flooding around here is going to be the wave of cropped pieces you will see in your favourite stores. This shortened look will be here for the spring and summer styles so it’s safe to invest. Cropped jeans, jumpers, and palazzo’s are sure fire way to keep you cool yet covered on breezy days or nights and also allows you to show of those favourite new pumps or tasseled sandals.
Wide leg and flare fits are the way to go to follow this season’s trends.

WHITES
Labour Day, Schmabour Day. I wear white where I want and when I want. But now that fashion rules dictate that its appropriate {major eye roll} to bust out the whites again, get them out. Go all white, go partial, add pops of white. I love the crispness of it. But be prepared to have a lot of it if you have a toddler…outfit changes are unavoidable.
