The school bells rings or the whistle blows marking the beginning of my family’s holiday break. For some people, they may rejoice, some fear the unknown of holiday haze, and some pour themselves a glass of wine and just jump in with reckless abandon. Or if you are like me, it’s all three. I don’t know if it was the yuletide vibe or dependency, but a cool glass of red wine is exactly what was calling my name this holiday season.
As I loaded my cart {ya I got a cart,}, I noticed a trend that came about quite organically. Every delicious bottle of red that was in my cart reigned from California. Apparently, I was craving those south-west grapes. On a side note I also think its a sign that I should head south myself.
So since I am positive that I was not alone is raising a glass or two of vino this holiday season, I thought I would share some of my favorites rouges. So we have made it past Boxing day and now most humans are perhaps slowly fading or detoxing in the tannin and grape department, {as I slam an earl grey}, but soon the {overrated} celebration of NYE will be rearing its bedazzled head and you will need a glass to cheers with. So in the spirit of the new year, try something new for the New Year.
I like to think my Top Holiday Wines are cost-effective, smooth, tasty, and do the job. Although I am suggesting them as a Holiday Break Fave, you can also find these on my wine rack all year round. I am not a fan of a really strong wine or overly full bodied wine, but I do want that warm rush without the bite. I am no connoisseur, but I know what I like . I have always been an Italian wine drinker, both red and white…I’m still a Pinot Grigio girl all the way — Santa Margerita is you must know. But this is a love story so I’m talking about my affair with the darker grape.
McManis Cab Sauv – $19.95, Robert Modavi Private Selection Cab Sauv – $18.95 ~ Make for great gifts for a host! |
This smooth and fruity rouge is easy to go down and what more can you ask for. Not over powering, just right for a mid-week booster if need be 😉 |
This is the near the bottom of the scale in terms of price but not in taste! This is a crowd pleaser and is lush in texture and has a nummy nummy after taste that keeps you coming for more! |
Share some of your favourites with me in the comment box, I’m always looking to try a new wine! Red or White!
